To create a blending option to image, text or layers go to the bottom of your layers panel and click the icon with a circle and a f on it.

Click blending options and your get the default options:

Adding a shadow gives your layer a 3D effect.

You can choose from 100s of patterns to overlay on your kayer.

When you have added blending options to your layer your layer will have the blending options icon on it, you can double click the layer to change the options.
