How do I promote my website?

Hello everyone,

I have had a few websites in the past, but could not get any traffic. I found a few places online , but they charged a lot or simply didn't work. Anyone have any tips or tricks for me?

You really should just get the link out there.
Include it in your signature and your profile on forums.
Tell your friends about it.
Submit content to places like Digg.

That's pretty much what I can suggest.
Just put the link anywhere you can (follow the rules of where you are though) and hope to god your content is good. :P

Use your signature line. Put your website address in there. People are curious. They'll go take a look. More importantly, it will get your link spidered by the web-bots.

Try submitting a few short articles to some article-directories, like EzineArticles or Article Dashboard. Put your site link in the Author's Resource box. Search engines LOVE big article banks like these.

Try offering other sites on the SAME topic as yours a link-swap. This only has an effect if the topics are similar (otherwise search engines will be wary of link farming)

There are many different ways to promote your site. As mentioned above, visiting forums is one source - but there are many other ways. Getting your website indexed in all the major search engines is a big plus, but in order to rank well within the search engines you need to focus on backlinks to your website - lots and lots of backlinks. You can get these links by posting in forums with your link in your signature, submitting to directories, by purchasing links from companies such as Web site link popularity - site page rank - buy web text link and by writing and submitting articles to article directories. All of these are fantastic ways to both increase your websites link popularity as well as its overall traffic.
