Young Entrepreneur says I was Wrong

This is a follow-up to my ProBlogger Review

As I said before – the Problogger review is perhaps the single most important piece of user feedback / research I have ever undertaken.

I will not beat about the bush – for all it’s strengths, RetireAt21.com was found wanting in many areas and frankly we still have a huge amount of work to do. I will be posting about some of these changes and asking for your feedback over the next week or so.

Today however, I would like to start with my dyslexia. I will admit that I have sometimes allowed dyslexia to “excuse” my poor spelling and grammar – but as has been pointed out to me, many people with dyslexia overcome these challenges and there is after all such things a Spell Check and Grammar Check.

The Dyslexic’s Creed

To the point – from this day forward I commit to never do any of the following:

To use “i” when I should be using “I”

To use “were” when I should be using “where”

To use “There” when I should be using “Their”

To use “plain” when I should be using “plane”

To use “right” when I should be using “write”

To use “was” when I meant “saw”

If I may ask a favour – if on any post you see of mine, I make spelling or grammar errors, I would be obliged if you could in COMMENTS, point out any errors – so that I may correct them. You are also welcome to make your own suggestions for what should be added to the above list. Just be aware of the differences between USA English and UK English – I am in the UK.

Also, I am aware that there are plenty of corrections to make to existing spelling and grammar on this site – and this will also be another of the issues that I will be attempting to resolve in the next few months.

Wish me luck – as you know, my normal state is CONFIDENT – but this really is a challenge

Thank you

Michael “reformed dyslexic” Dunlop

The easiest way to go about this would be to write everything in a word processor then transfer it to wordpress. Another thing - firefox has inbuilt spell checkers. So even if you do type direct to wordpress, it should still underline typos. Neither of these options are much use if your just using the wrong version of a word (there instead of their etc). The only way to correct these is to proof your work, or get someone else to proof it for you.

Good post. I can imagine it must be difficult. I shudder when I see some of my writing from 2 years ago, it is something that we all need to work on. Dean

people just need to lighten up and not worry about a few miss spellings here and there. This is a blog not a text book. Ask Jeremy over at Shoemoney what he thinks about this...here is a post he wrote about it: http://www.shoemoney.com/2008/01/27/can-you-suck-at-grammer-and-have-a-successful-blog/

[...] The small spelling mistakes and other errors are indeed very minor and small, but even so, they take away a lot of the professionalism of the site. It is an easy fix, and something that Michael should try to pay more attention to in the future. [...]
