Search Engine Optimization Basics

Search Engine Optimization Basics

7 Features Which Will Sky Rocket Your Search Engine Traffic if you get them right!

OK, this is the basics - but I get so many emails on SEO I thought I would do this post. I don’t claim to always get it right myself and truthfully I am struggling with the CMS that we use to manage the main RetireAt21 content - but in an ideal world you need these:

Browser Title - Here is where you want your keywords, only necessary text should be here. Here is a example of a bad browser title “Retire @ 21 - Interview 722″, a good example of a browser title would be “Jonathan Volk, Interview With A Super Affiliate“, it is keyword rich and makes sense!

Meta Description - A meta description is an HTML tag to describe a Web page’s contents, you want a keyword rich description of your webpage.

URL’s - On your blog you want your url’s to be the same as the page title, not http://www.retireat21.com/?p=722 but instead having http://www.retireat21.com/interview/Jonathan-Volk-Interview-With-A-Super-Affiliate

H1 and H2 Tags - H tags show the search engines what the most important text is on the page, so every page title should have H1 and H2 tags in my opinion.

Search Engine Optimization Basics - at the TOP of this post is in a H2 Tag

Anchor Text - Is the text displayed for a link, you want a keyword rich text description for your link, for example Jonathan Volk, Interview With A Super Affiliate

Meta Keywords - This will help the search engines know what your page is about, for example Jonathan Volk, Entrepreneur Interview, Young Entrepreneur, Affiliate Marketing.

Quality Content - You want quality, keyword rich, regular content.

Nice article. I too have been covering the basics of SEO with my post “What is SEO?“. It is such a hot topic but it can get very technical very fast!

Michael - Since you stated, “I don’t claim to always get it right myself,” I thought I’d help out a little. You covered some of the basics well; however, meta keywords have lost their importance. Many companies and individuals still use them (myself included), but I don’t see them as a basic need for SEO. Thanks!

one of the points which I think you have missed is-making the keywors in your regular content bold and italic. This is a proven way of getting most from search engines.
