How to make more money with ebay

by Michael Posted in Ebay

5 things I learnt from $10,000 of sales on ebay.

When to post a listing - I use to post all my listings in the morning because i worked from home, I got up, did my ebay listings and responded to any emails. At the time I was selling Lacoste Polo Shirts and they were selling for around $40 – $45. I decided to then change the time of the listing to the evening time, around 7pm because most people start coming online around 6pm. I saw my sales go from $40 to around $70 for each polo shirt!

How much to charge for postage – Be honest, charge how ever much it costs but remember time is money, you have to package each item yourself and take it to the post office so you should add a small cost on top of the postage and packaging price.

Customer Support – Customer are always Right, we here it all the time but the fact is somethings are just not worth the time and energy.

Keep Records – So many times has customers contacted me saying the product hasn’t arrived, make sure you get Proof of postage or a recorded delivery so you know you have sent the product. I also always write the address of the customer on the recipe from the post office.

Second Chance Offers - I only put up one of the same thing up everyday or my products will be competing with each other so the price will drop. Once Ive sold something and have been paid i then offer the second highest offer the chance to buy the product. This way i make more than putting two listings up at the same time. (I always save on listing fee’s)

Some very interesting pointers, very interesting to see the way some people do things compared to others. I browse ebay a lot, never buy, never sell, now I’m tempted…

Great tips. I’ve always wanted to have an eBay business going, but I don’t have anything to sell or the knowledge as how to set-up contacts and all that to get products. I’ve bought from eBay 5 times (I think :S) and haven’t had a problem :)

Michael, this is a great post, but if i may add something, if you have more than 1 item i guess its best to have a ebay shop its much cheaper this way.
