Ghanaian Hospital Visit

I have not felt 100% well since arriving in Ghana – mainly a sore throat – so yesterday I decided to go and see the Doctor in the hospital.

Ghana has the best system ever! (not)

You go in and fill out a form to see the doctor, sit down and join a waiting list, then once you have waited for a while you get called and given a bill to be paid at a different desk. So you pay the bill and then go back to the other desk and get told where to go for the Doctor.

You then wait and the second someone comes out the doctors room you have to rush in as they don’t do Q’s here! When I got into the doctors there was a man and a women. I sat there for about 5 minutes while they could think, the lady was playing hang man on the PC and the man was scribbling on some paper making funny shapes.

Then the Doctor asks me to open my mouth and says: Wow your tonsils are like apples and laughs!

I was like haha that is so funny!

He gives me a list of drugs I should take. I go to the Pharmacy / Chemist which is the hospital and gave my piece of paper and then I was asked to sit down. Then another man comes out – and gaves me another piece of paper and said go to the payment desk and pay (which is in the lobby ) so I headed to the lobby and paid and came back and sat down for a while and then received my pills!

Anyway, the good news is I am feeling quite a bit better today – so thank you Ghanaian Doctor, thank you Ghanaian Hospital.

Looking My Age

Ghana is probably the only place in the world I look older than my age, I thought at school I wouldn’t be accepted because of my age But in fact when a class of 13 – 15 year were asked to guess my age ( which I didn’t give out coz the head master told me not to ) they where shouting out 22 ! 24! 26! 25! and so on. I then was asked several times if I am married and have kids, some even ask if I am lonely!?

But this all said, the Ghanaian are lovely, very friendly. Sure the traders are a bit of a nuisance – but they are just being Entrepreneurs and I respect that.

Until next time – keep prospering

I really enjoy reading your Blog. I admire that you are donating your time and effort to helping people. It's something I admire and hope to do in the future. For such a young man, you sure have your head on your shoulders. Your parents did a great job. Keep up the good work and I look forward to seeing more pictures and reading about your adventures in Ghana.

What are you in Ghana for? I actually might be going there this summer briefly on the way to Togo, Africa. Would love to hear what you plan on doing there and such? :) Thanks, Jonathan Volk www.jonathanvolk.com

Hi Jonathan, I am not sure how long I am here for yet, could be up to 6 weeks. I would recommend you to stay at Cape Coast in Ghana for around 3 or 4 days as there is so much there to do, unlike the capital which is a bit grim. Will send you over a email when I have a chance. Hi Jason, sure is a great experience even if sometimes I am not enjoying it, I know that I will learn so much from it all. Until next time - keep prospering

hmmmm !!! reading this makes so unhappy about so called site, anyway its a good way of destroying the image of ghana and doctors in ghana as a whole. You make you so sorry so untrue and so funny but actually the main is to tell the world how bad it is to be in Ghana, where ever you from, mann we are proud to be ghanaians and we love our country so much, actually, where did you go to, Accra, kumasi or where ?? stop spoiling the image of my motherland and go back to your country lill KID!!
