Great points :) But I think that Ads are not harmful at any stage of your blog. Why do you think it is ok to put Ads when you have good traffic and not ok when you don't? People who are visiting your blog don't know what traffic your site is generating, so I think it is not about the traffic, it's about deciding to place ads or not place ads at all on your blog.

Bemore here

After reading this I can say that I will be removing my ads. I can see where your coming from.

I just launched a fitness and weight loss blog in November and I'm getting sucky traffic right now and I know its only the beginning.

I focus on SEO and getting certain posts to the top of google so that I can get organic traffic.

Thanks for the informative posts. I have 4 of the 5 covered. Time to lose the ads

You offer some good advice here for beginners. However, I would like a small bit of clarification.

Did you pick the 10,000 visits per month arbitrarily - or is there a solid basis for it? I understand the concept and thinking behind not plastering ads around right away - but the point at which advertising should/could be implemented would have to depend on niche and niche size. It would also have to depend on audience engagement. If the audience truly believes 100% in what you are doing and you can count on a decent percentage of them benefiting from your advertising, then it is worth it to add it regardless of traffic statistics.

Thanks again for a good post and thinking material!

Thanks. I just launched my first blog today and was searching around for tips on blog promotion. Luckily, I came across this post. I had already made one the mistakes listed here, but thankfully, the blog has only been up less than 20 minutes and I had a chance to rectify it.

I pretty much agree with everything you say.

Content is king! I read plenty of vanilla looking blogs with killer content.

Once you get to 10,000 page impressions a month don't necessarily jump on the Adsense band wagon either - look around for the best advertising solution that will fit your design and also your niche!

Last point, if you have been thinking about it for 6 months and still have not put anything into action then I wouldn't bother! Move on to the next idea...
